Hello! I’m Sherrie, the owner and principal consultant of Ascension. Growing up, I was always surrounded by the elderly. I did not know it then, but that had planted a seed that sprouted into a passion for seniors later on in my life. This passion began to flourish as I was an administrator for nearly 12 years. That opportunity allowed me to expand my knowledge and help many people while doing so. I became an expert on regulation, got experience with a great many types of dementia, stepped more into my business strategy skills, as well as become a legislative advocate for our seniors. I am an active member of the Colorado Assisted Living Association (CALA) as well as Colorado Placement and Referral Alliance (CoPRA) and I serve on the Government Relations Committee for both organizations. I also am a Certified Trainer for the Teepa Snow Positive Approach to Care (PAC). While my path now is different, my passion for seniors has not changed. I believe together we can make this industry a better place not just to work, but to live. That’s why I started Ascension, because by helping our caregivers and Administrators we are helping our seniors have a better, more enriching life. When I’m not working towards this goal you can find me in my garden, listening to an audio book, or cuddling with my dogs and cats. Hi! I’m Alaina, one of the consulting partners with Ascension. When I was 12 years old, I was always going to work with my mom and that sprouted a love for working with seniors. By 18, I started my caregiving journey that eventually led to management positions, allowing me to explore the administrative side of this field, as well as the care side. In my experience, I noticed a big gap in the industry; training for our caregivers. While there’s plenty of good resources out there for people to learn, when you’re on a 12 hour shift giving all your attention to the residents, you don’t exactly have the time (or energy!) to research the intricacies of dementia, regulatory requirements, and how to grow your career in caregiving. I certainly felt this during my caregiving experience, and it’s a feeling that often led to burnout. That gap in the industry became our goal, better the lives of all residents through bettering the lives of our caregivers and administrators. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander, right? When I’m not thinking of ways to help our caregivers and seniors, you can catch me crocheting (I do lessons too!), reading, or hanging out with my herd of animals. Got any questions or ideas?
